Definition of Herbal-Infused Oils
My herbal-infused oils consist of organic unrefined virgin grade olive oil that has been permeated "infused" with one or more herbs. Virgin grade olive oil comes from the first cold pressing of the olive and is the most nutritious of all the olive oils. The benefit to using an infused oil, as opposed to a plain carrier oil, is that the infused oil will contain the therapeutic properties of both the carrier oil and the herbs that were infused into the oil. The synergy of the herbal infused oil with the pure essential oils and carriers is fantastic! I make my own infused oils from pure, fresh and dry organic herbs, allowing them to steep for 6 to 8 weeks in a warm, sunny spot. This helps to extract the medicinal properties out of the herb. The oil is strained through cheesecloth and is used in making pomades, body lotions and balms. This is another way to extract the medicinal properties of an herb. Some of the herbs used are home-grown in my organic garden.
Hot oil treatments are used to condition dry/damaged hair as the heat helps the oil to penetrate more effectively. Hair and Scalp emollients include oils and pomades that soothe, nourish and soften the scalp and hair. They are also effective for treating dry fly-away hair, chemically or environmentally damaged hair and dry, itchy scalp, and can be used for detangling the hair. They can either be applied to the hair at room temperature or used for hot oil treatments. Hair and scalp emollients can tone down split and frizzy hair, providing deeply penetrating conditioning. Adding essential oils to carrier oils and butters helps to clean and deodorize the hair and scalp while adding extra conditioning effects.

Directions for Hair Pomade Use
When applying oil or pomade to your hair, start by placing a very small amount on your fingertips and combing your fingers through your hair to distribute the emollient evenly. Massage the scalp as well. Apply more as needed. Beware of applying too much oil and ending up with slick, greasy hair, unless that is the effect you desire. Oil is very difficult to wash out if applied too thickly. Put the emollient in a heat-proof measuring cup and place it in a hot-water bath until the emollient reaches 100-105 degrees. Thoroughly massage the warm oil into your scalp and brush it through your hair until it is evenly dispersed. For long, thick hair use 1-2 teaspoons of oil or more as indicated. For thinner, shorter hair use ¼ - ½ teaspoon or more as indicated. Wrap your hair with a plastic bag or shower cap, then place a thick wool cap over that. The natural heat released from your scalp will facilitate the conditioning process. Leave your hair covered in this manner for at least an hour, and then wash your hair for a shiny, luxurious result. Note that it is not absolutely necessary to wash your hair after this treatment. This procedure is also very helpful for untangling hair gnarls: Work out the knots with your fingers or a comb while the hair is saturated with oil.
Tips: ~ Also, you can put a small amount in the palm of your hands and finger through your hair as a leave-in conditioner/styling gel. ~ If you prefer to not warm the product, warm up in palms of hands and rub through scalp and hair shaft. ~ Awesome to use on face and body, too!
